Anyone who collects vintage movie star postcards has undoubtedly come across the Ross Verlag name, a postcard publishing company that existed from the early 1920's through the mid 1940's in Berlin, Germany. On this website, I'll tell some of the company's history, and attempt to create checklists of all the Ross Verlag film star postcards.
Ross Verlag printed real photo postcards of the highest quality, among the finest ever published of movie stars. The company licensed thousands of images from the Hollywood studios; some of those photos may have only been distributed on these postcards. In Germany, movie stars were photographed by the best European glamour studios. Quite possibly, many of these photos were taken just for publication through Ross Verlag.
Most of the records for Ross Verlag were lost, no doubt, in the war, so a thorough research of the company is very difficult. There are still many mysteries.
I have divided this website into several pages, each dealing with a different topic related to the history of Ross Verlag. For instance, the first topic discloses what is known about the founder of the company, Heinrich Ross. To access any of the pages, click on the subject heading, or either of the postcards on each side of the topic.
